Marisha Porter
As a child in school, Marisha was one of those who sat staring out of the window
daydreaming. This happened during some lessons, except English. English was a subject
she enjoyed and in which she became totally involved. Her favourite bolthole was the
library.
However, it wasn't until her own children were taking exams that Marisha decided to
take 'O' Level and 'A' Level English, which she passed. Following this, Marisha
joined the original Woodham writers group of the late eighties.
This was a creative writing class, which led to writing becoming an interest for a
while. During this time, Marisha won first prize in a competition with the story
'Illusion and Reality.'
However, family commitments intervened, Marisha had to leave the group and there was
very little time to devote to her writing. Now with grown up children and
grandchildren popping up left, right, and centre, the writing bug has bitten her
again. Nowadays, writing is not just an interest, but has become a passion. The
projects of the Woodham Writers Group have led to Marisha finding an outlet for her
work, old and new. She won last year’s Christmas competition with
“Unnatural Perfection” which can be found here.
Her new passion for writing tends to suggest that maybe that daydreaming in school
wasn't such a waste of time after all!
