The Group Competitions

Over the years the Scribblers have often dug out their competitive side and gone head to head in writing competitions. The details (and winning entries) of each can be found below.

Christmas Challenge 2009

Former member, creator of this website (and thoroughly nice chap!) Matt Bowen was invited back for a second time to judge the most recent challenge. He set up the opening three paragraphs of a story for the Scribblers to continue. Read all of the entries here

Summer Challenge 2007

The first, and only, Challenge for the summer months former member Matt Bowen was invited to set up the challenge and judge the winners. Details of the criteria, and some of the entries can be found here

Christmas Competition 2005

The theme for this competition was Music. The Scribblers were invited to write a story based on the lyrics in a song. The group also opened up the challenge to the public for the second time and judge their favourites from your entries. The external competition winner was Sarah Drew who wrote a piece based upon Hill & Gully Rider. Internally, the entries were judged by Catherine Porter, then an English Teacher at Westleigh Junior School. The winner was Mike Gillingham with his interpretation of He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

Christmas Competition 2003

Our first competition theme was Perfection, as chosen by Tom Allen an English Teacher at William De Ferrers Secondary School. We also invited you to send in your entries on this theme which the group judged. The Winner of the external competition was Robbie Jepson (then aged 10) whilst Tom Allen chose the internal competition winner to be Marisha Porter with Un-natural Perfection
